Obesity & Physical Inactivity
Overweight as well as obesity are common health conditions and their prevalence is increasing nationally and in Wisconsin. Excess weight is associated with an increased risk of many chronic health conditions: cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stroke, osteoarthritis and some cancers. There is a strong relationship between poor nutrition, physical inactivity and being overweight. Healthy People Portage County encourages organizations and individuals interested in promoting healthy eating and active living to organize prevention initiatives around the following goals.
